In 1988, the Goodyear Dam Fishway was constructed thanks to the efforts of both the Bowmanville Anglers’ Association and the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources. The fishway provided upstream access over the dam for a variety of migrating salmon and trout species but with limited effect – only allowing larger fish to enter and only at times when the water was high. It also served as an impassable barrier for sea lamprey to prevent passage further upstream.
