Flooding and Erosion

Look down. Why do you think the path is concrete in this area, rather than asphalt?

Each spring, excessive water from snowmelt and ice dams causes the creek in this area to overflow the banks and follow a new path across the trail. This combines with water flowing down from the higher ground to the west. The concrete pads resist being damaged by this flow and the movement of the ice.
