But it is the time between 1941 and 1945, its tenure as Prisoner of War Camp 30 that makes the history of this property so unique. In 1941, Great Britain wanted to ensure the security of high ranking German POWs by getting them as far from the war as possible. The Government of Canada quickly claimed the boy’s school and converted it into a POW camp, erecting double fencing, guard towers and barracks for soldiers.
