Himalayan Balsam

Introduced to North America as a garden ornamental in the early 1800s, this plant can completely cover an area, crowding out native vegetation.
The plant spreads through its seeds which are launched from small explosive capsules when touched.

You can help reduce the spread of this plant by staying on the trails and keeping pets on leashes.

Himalayan Balsam is very similar to the native, orange-flowered Jewelweed.
