If you look through the clearing here across King Street, you can see the remaining buildings that once housed the Bowmanville Zoo. Originally established in 1919 as the Cream of Barley Campground, the property housed a small petting zoo. This attraction grew over time until eventually, the business became the Bowmanville Zoo which operated until 2016, just 3 years shy of its 100th anniversary. The zoo, during its time of operation, supplied many animals to the film industry.
