Riparian Zones form important transition areas between the water and the land. Wetlands bordering bodies of water like lakes and rivers are also considered to be riparian zones. Creeks and streams without healthy riparian zones are often degraded and provide poorer fish habitat. Protecting riparian zones is a critical part of any stream management plan.
