Keeping a journal is a great way to improve literacy and inspire an attitude of exploration in your child.
Encourage your child to write and include pictures in their journal every time you visit the valley. Take close up pictures of things that interest them like flowers, insects and unusual plants. As you explore the discovery stations, you will be introduced to free apps like iNaturalist, SEEK and others. Use these apps to help you learn more about the animals you meet.
Each Discovery Station will encourage you and your child to add something different to your journal.
Finally, let your child’s experience of the valley and the natural environment be the focus. The intent is to use the discovery stations to enhance that experience rather than distract.
