Over six acres of native hardwoods and softwoods will occupy the southern portion of the Bowmanville Creek Valley through the Commemorative Forest program. Each acre of new forest can capture and store an estimated 68 tons (61 tonnes) of carbon from the atmosphere.

These trees will all be native species – plants that have evolved in this area and provide suitable food and shelter to the wildlife that lives here. Plantings like this can also act as a gene bank for native species – increasing their diversity.
