At the Junction of trails here is a pollinator garden. A space designed to encourage animals like butterflies, bees, hummingbirds and other pollinators. Plants in a pollinator garden can fall into one of two categories – feeder plants and host plants.
Feeder plants provide a source of nectar for adult pollinators. Host plants support the rest of the animal’s life cycle providing a safe place to lay eggs and a source of food for the insect’s larva. Often, you can carefully examine a host plant like milkweed to find insect eggs and caterpillars.
The following pages show different native host and feeder plants suitable to this region.
Can you find these plants in the garden?
